The Cau00f1on City Police Department, the Florence Police Department and the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office are three out of 24 agencies across the state participating in a new campaign that aims to educate motorists about the “Move Over” law.
The “Move Over” law, which was made into Colorado law in 2005, requires drivers approaching stationary emergency vehicles that are displaying flashing lights, traveling in the same direction, to vacate the lane closest, if safe and possible to do so.
The law not only applies to law enforcement and fire departments but also tow trucks and road crews.
According to the website for the national “Move Over” campaign, more than 150 law enforcement officers have been killed since 1999 after being struck.”
