following set of instructions is merely included as a guide to navigating

All walks detailed on this site were undertaken from 2001 and provide
information relevant to that period. The Foot & Mouth outbreak during the
first half of 2001 prevented access to many paths; that information is no longer
relevant but access should always be checked before setting out.
Presentation has gradually evolved over the last two years to it's current
format and all walks from, & including 2002, follow the same format by providing
a thumbnail image preview leading to a full description of the walk; earlier
walks may be less detailed but are included to provide photographic detail over
that period. |

Walking
on the island is not particularly arduous and, with the possible exception
of the Shepherd's Trail & Stenbury Trail linked by the Coastal Path, the
walks detailed on this site should be well within the reach of most walkers.
Good quality 'trainers' or walking boots, either leather or fabric, will
assist as will the correct choice of clothing but are not essential,
particularly for the shorter walks.
Please
respect the countryside and keep to footpaths leaving all gates as found.
Always
take care when using paths that follow the cliff edge, especially if
accompanied with children.
A
compass, or indeed GPS, is not really essential but can provide additional
information to the benefit of the walker.
A walking
speed of 2½ mph will provide a reasonable indication of the duration of each
walk i.e. a 10 mile walk will take nominally 4 hours, allowing plenty of
time to take photographs etc.

ALL walks
detailed on this site were available at the time of walking and with minor
exceptions ALL walks are across public rights of way, on public footpaths &
permissive paths or across designated Access Land; information provided by
WightCAM is done with best intentions and any deviation from the
aforementioned is the responsibility of the walker.
Footpath
closures & detours are inevitable particularly near exposed coastal regions;
WightCAM accepts no responsibility for the continued authenticity of walks
published on this site.
The
description, with or without a map, of a route on this website is not meant
to signify a right of way. We are lucky on the Isle of Wight to have a
network of approximately 500 miles of paths, BUT all land is owned by
someone and if in doubt, permission should be obtained from the landowner
first.
WightCAM
has taken great care to ensure that the information on this website is
accurate. No liability is accepted for any misinformation or injury, loss or
damages incurred by use of said information.
The time
taken was how long it took me on that day given my mood, who I was with and
the weather conditions. If you choose to follow one of my routes it may take
you more or less time than it took me!
Car
parking is the responsibility of the owner & must always be done in strict
accordance with local bylaws. |
