A short circular walk following a mixture of paths to Gunville, then towards Carisbrooke & quiet roads around the back of Carisbrooke Castle via Froglands & Watergate returning along the River Medina past Shide

Introduction

After a hard overnight frost, we set off in glorious sunshine without a cloud in the sky making our way around the back of Newport past Towngate Pond and along Petticoat Lane when cloud started to row in. By the time we had reached Gunville Bridge the day had become murky & starting to feel cold, so, a change of plan was considered to cut the walk short by diverting to Alvington & Carisbrooke. The skies darkened with a mixture of light hail & sleet fell making it hard to image how much the day had changed in such a relatively short space of time.
